So I saw somewhere that you want there to be 2012 London Olympics AUs for Dean and Cas. Well… check out this photo of Holy-Shit-That’s-Cas at the 1948 London Olympics. It’s sixty-four years off from what you wanted, but damn, the resemblance is uncanny. I can totally imagine a historical AU where Dean is a young and up-and-coming American athlete (either something boring like running or something like archery or shooting… my researches tell me that shooting was indeed a sport in the 1948 Olympics) and Cas is his newly-assigned coach with a stick up his ass. Cas was once an Olympian like Dean, but something happened (cheating? Framed? Something…) and he failed, so he is strict and cantakerous and always rule-abiding and he works Dean to the bone. The stakes are high and their initial relationship is tense, because Cas wants Dean to be more than even Dean thinks he could ever be, and Dean has never done well with rules. They eventually become closer, however, as Dean learns what true sportsmanship means, Cas learns that there’s more than one way of winning, and sometimes it involves breaking the rules a little bit, and they both learn about each other. In this photo, Holy-Shit-That’s-Cas looks like he’s watching Dean out on the field, proud and anxious for him to get the gold that he could never get himself.
Ugh… I got a little carried away there… I did research and everything. Your blog is very inspiring that way.
Anyway, I thought you might enjoy it.
